General Information

SCHOOL PROCEDURES:

The School Day

Children should arrive at school after 8.00 am, for an 8.15 start. School closes at 2.40pm. Our day is divided into 7 teaching sessions, each of which is 45 minutes long. The majority of lessons are taught by the class teacher but each class also has Specialist lessons in Music, PE and Mandarin and these Subjects are Taught by Specialist Teachers.

Students have a mid morning break and a longer lunch break. A snack should be provided for the morning break and a more substantial lunch for the lunch time break. Please ensure that your child has sufficient drinks in non-breakable containers for both break times. In addition water fountains are located around the school and children are encouraged to refill their drink bottle from the water fountain, the water filters are changed regularly.

Uniform and Belongings

The Quarry Bay School uniform is Navy Blue and White and all childen are expected to adhere to the uniform requirements and wear their uniform with pride. An important element of our general high levels of expectation is a high standard of dress and personal presentation and all children are expected to attend school dressed neatly in their school uniform.

All uniform items can be purchased from the school shop located on the ground floor of the school premises. Please ensure that all articles of clothing and other items which belong to your child are clearly named as an enormous amount of time can be spent looking for lost items or trying to find the owners of unnamed items. Lost property can be found in the Quiet Area next to the Medical Room. The school shop sells marker pens and you can order name tapes there.

We do discourage children from bringing expensive or easily broken toys to school. However, young children are naturally acquisitive. Please do not be over concerned if your child comes home with someone else's possessions in their bag. Have a quiet talk to them and send the item back to school the next day, preferably with a note in your child's diary. No fuss will be made and the item will be quietly returned to the owner.

Diaries

Your child will need a school diary and a QBS book bag on their first day at school. The diary provides parents, students and teachers with the opportunity to communicate on a regular basis. There is a space for you to write notes about your child's absences or questions that you might have. Please use the diary and indicate that there is a message with the bookmark provided. The teachers check the diaries regularly and find them an extremely useful means of home-school communication.

Bookbags

QBS book bags can be purchased for your child to safely transport books to and from home. These are available from the PTA Shop on the school premises, blue for reading books and red for Mandarin books. Please ensure that your child understands the need to protect schoolbooks.

Equipment

It is very important that all students have the equipment they require on a daily basis in order to carry out their learning activities. Each year group will be provided with an equipment list and these items can be purchased from the school shop. Please check your child's equipment regularly so that lost and damaged items can be replaced as required.

Facilities

Quarry Bay school is a modern building with excellent facilities to support student learning. All classrooms are fitted with an Interative Whiteboard and are well resourced. In addition we have a large hall for performances and other events and a ground floor gymnasium. We have a music room, a computer suite and a well stocked Learning Centre. All children have access to laptops in their classroom and these are used to support learning as and when required. Our outdoor spaces provide a variety of play and teaching areas with opportunities for physical activity and quiet reflection.
